We had the marvelous opportunity to visit a
trench that had been dug to examine the
fault responsible for the Sylmar Quake in the 70s.
The scientist leading the work, Tom Fumas,
was happy to tell the kids all about what he was
learning.
We accompanied the Sweitzers on a snow trip to Big Bear.
This is the slope in the backyard of Keith's uncle's
cabin. The kids made a great tubing run. This is
Lisa coming down the hill.
There wasn't much snow on the ground on the north side of the lake,
but the trees were still beautiful.
Jenny and Kurt had fun sharing dish duty.
Jenny was Student of the Week and got to bring home Bandit.
She wrote a journal of what she and Bandit did during the
week. She also put candy in the guessing jar and took it to
school for the class to guess how many pieces there were in it.
Then they would count them. Each week a different student
was chosen for this honor.
Sarah taught Jenny to ride her bike without the training wheels.
She had her riding in just 5 minutes.
We bought fruit trees, a Fuji Red Apple, a Granny Smith Apple,
2 Royal Apricots, and a peach tree to plant in the yard.
Keith came over to help supervise the planting.
Lisa had a project for school in which she needed to pick
a small area and study how the living things interacted
to maintain a balance. We observed evidence of predators
at the top of the food chain in the form of scat with bones
in it. We observed fungi decomposing dead biological material.
We observed insects pollinating flowers. It was a
fun expedition.
Happy Birthday, Sarah!
Sarah had a sleepover party for her birthday.
The girls made barretts as one of the planned activities.
Lisa went to outdoor school and had this
chance to handle a snake.
Jenny liked playing in the sprinkler.
In August we drove to Folsum for the Hubbell Family Historical
Society reunion. While there, Shelton's family joined
us in panning for gold in the American River near
Sutter's Mill.
Wendy and Steve rode home with us from Folsum for a
more extended visit. We took them to the beach where
Steve tried Pacific waters for the first time.
The Norford aunts and Uncles gather to celebrate
Grandmother's birthday:
Uncle Rick, Dad, Uncle Nelson
Aunt Alice, Grandmother, Mother, Aunt Linda
Christmas 1995. There are a growing number of stockings
hung by the chimney with care.
Mother and Dad again stayed with us for some of the
Christmas holidays.
I made Mother this 12 Days of Christmas necklace from Fimo.
Grandmommy and Granddaddy brought some of the dresses we bought
in Hawaii in 1972 and the girls modeled them.
Jenny was illustrating her story.
Lisa solves the tricky elephant puzzle.
Sarah demonstrates a blind thrust fault earthquake.
Sarah models the dress Anne made and wore to the Christmas Ball in high school.
