If you look closely, you can see the stairs down the bluff
to the beach. Fortunately for my peace of mind, the campus
seems to be up about 50 feet from sea level. Winter storm
surges shouldn't be a big problem.
Jenny enjoyed the poking around the sand and waves.

Alan reveled in the sand. I couldn't decide which picture
to include, so you get both.
We visited Lisa again on October 21st, at her request.
She suggested a zoo trip. So Jenny, Roger, Alan and I
drove to UCSB. Sarah had a group project for English she
had to work on and a dance rehearsal. Glen had already
committed to golfing with Keith at a course where you
have to reserve your tee time a week in advance. We could
have waited to see Lisa, but I decided just to go anyway.
We picked up Lisa and a friend, Jennifer, at her dorm
and then went to the zoo.
Roger insisted on seeing the giraffes. Alan liked them, too.
Roger and Alan hatch out of this sculpture designed for children.
The leopard showed off for us, right next to the glass.
He stretched and yawned, just like a big cat.
This tortoise got quite motivated when a flower dropped within
a few feet.
The homo sapiens exhibit was cleverly designed for
the enjoyment of the inhabitants and visitors.
After the zoo, we drove to the fishing pier near the campus.
It's equipped with restrooms and fish-cleaning stations with running water.
This pelican just sits and waits for handouts. I could
have reached out and touched him.
Everybody had to look way down at the water.
I took the group to Taco Bell for dinner. Lisa and her friend, Jennifer
have both been extremely frugal and hadn't had anything
other than dorm food for a month.
After dinner, we planned to go back to the dorm and hike down
to the beach from there. However, a wrong turn landed us
back by the Goleta State Beach, so we decided to play there
instead.
While Lisa played with the boys, I tried to capture the
remains of the sunset.
Jenny and Jennifer dug in the sand for sandcrabs.

In between studying and watching anime and going to classes,
Lisa has started writing for the UCSB newspaper, The Nexus.
After just one more article, they will start paying her per
