Big Bear

We had a chance to go to Big Bear in the San Bernadino Mountains for Memorial Day Weekend. The McGreevy's invited us to share a condo. Molly and the boys and I took a leisurely stroll along the north side of the lake.

Several of us decided to explore Holcolm Valley, which is about 1000 feet higher in elevation than Big Bear (6500'). It was the site of a booming mining community around the turn of the century. The road is well-graded dirt.

Alan and Roger liked the rocks at this gold mining site.

Alan was happy to run the dirt through his fingers.

Roger had a great time taking 'pictures' with Emily's camera. Once she finished the roll, she let him pretend.

Unfortunately, we blew a tire as we pulled into a parking spot. Glen had planned to replace the tires in June anyway, but now he had to do it just a little sooner. He swapped the tiny spare on and gingerly drove back to the condo. Then he had to drive down the mountain to find a place that was still open and could put new tires on. He got to WalMart in Apple Valley just 20 minutes before they closed Sunday evening.
