Snow is not plentiful, but sand is, so...
Jenn, Rob and Lindsey -- friends of Lisa's.
Jenn is Lisa's accomplice in many adventures.
Lisa is climbing out on this rock to capture the starfish.
Storke Tower houses bells and the newspaper staff.
Morgan and Jason -- no, they're not dating, just
posing for Lisa's camera.
We walked around campus a bit, although all the
buildings were closed for the holiday.
After our brief walking tour, some of the hardier members of the party hiked over to Goleta Beach via the trail along the bluff. Glen, Roger and I moved the cars. Goleta Beach State Park has a very nice playground and, even more important, bathrooms!
Here's Roger coming down the slide!
And Alan takes a turn.
Alan and Anne match hands through the plexiglas
viewport, another part of the play equipment.
Around 4:15, we went back to the beach by Lisa's
dorm so we could walk out on the sand and rocks
at low tide which was supposed to peak at 5pm.
The kids were excited to find a live crab tangled
in the seaweed. When Wesley tried to turn it over,
he discovered another one under it.
This picture doesn't do justice to either the
people or the lighting, but I tried.
This is the kind of stuff the kids were enjoying
poking around in. There are several sea urchin
shells here and Lisa actually found a whole
sand dollar. We also saw the starfish, but Lisa's
picture above is much better than mine. The starfish is
probably even the same one.
These birds, including a pelican, were way out
on the rocks, probably fishing in the surf.
This is one of the paths along the bluffs.
These birds gather in the lagoon.
Time to head back up the stairs.
Roger gets a last jump off a rock before
I run out of film.
This captures the essence of the day.
You could even see the islands off the coast.
