This scooter is one of Roger's presents.
Roger and Lisa raced at the park. They were
both learning to use their new wheels, Lisa's
being a set of roller blades found in the garage.
Dying Easter eggs. Going clockwise from left,
Roger, Jenn (friend of Lisa's), Lisa, Jason, and Alan.
Hunting for eggs in the backyard. Deb brought
candy-filled plastic eggs and Sarah and Jason hid them.
Lisa and Jenn made capes/cloaks to wear as costumes
at Fanime, the anime convention in Santa Clara.
This was the first time using a sewing machine for
both of them. They stayed up late working, and,
not wanting to wake me, Lisa looked up how to
change the thread on the internet. I was amused and
amazed that she succeeded in finding and using
directions for a 30+ year-old machine.
Here are the finished capes.
We had a pepper tree/weed that had grown up right next to the
fence. Since the fence is now 20 years old and
we plan to replace it, the tree had to come down.
The chainsaw didn't cooperate very well until
Glen took it all apart, replaced the split
fuel lines, and reassembled it.
Glen climbed the tree and started removing
branches. We used ropes to bring them all
down into our own yard instead of the
neighbor's.
Jenny was a tremendous help all day, manning ropes,
fetching tools, and holding logs while Glen cut it
into firewood. Sarah's job was to keep the boys
out of the way. She did it in part by making fancy
pudding with cookie bits in it and decorated with
candy.
We set up the folding ladder to protect my little trees.
Now my forest has a nice decorative log across the sand area.
The boys and I sometimes roast marshmallows together,
now that we have plenty of wood.
Roger swings from the bar.
Alan swings from the bar.
We spent some time on Goleta Beach in April when
returning Lisa and Jenn to UCSB after a weekend visit.
Lisa teaches Alan to draw in the sand.
Alan is a fast learner.
Meanwhile, Jenny and Roger build a castle, complete with tunnel.
Lisa's dorm, Anacapa, is visible further along the shore.
The JV Dance Team at Moorpark High School, 2001/2002.

At the awards banquet, Sarah cleaned up. She
got her Letter, suitable for putting on a
letter jacket which we may or may not do, and a pin
for being on the team. She also got an award for
maintaining better than a 3.5 (hers is a 4.3,
thanks to 5-point A's in honors classes) grade
average while being on the team. Her teammates
also voted her the Congeniality Award (above)
and the Most-Improved Award (also above).
We picked a nice day and drove up to the condor observation
point (no, we didn't see any) to gather rocks.
We did spot a little lizard, though.
This is Elephant Rock, right next door to the McGreeys'
house.
I took the boys to Conejo Creek Park during the day.
Alan is a great climber.
We enjoyed watching the ducks, too.
Sarah made cookies with the boys.
We took an afternoon stroll around the trains
in Fillmore. They have antique ones on display
and they run train rides on selected days.
One of Sarah's friends wrote this on her hand on her
birthday. "Kiss me. It's my birthday and that makes
me Cool Beans."
Sarah had a party at Peach Hill Park with her friends.
They played a bit of football.
My backyard forest continues to evolve.
Geranium Incanum, aka Cranesbill. It took me hours
online to identify this little volunteer plant that I
moved into my forest. It's not even a California
native; it's from South Africa.
One of the dances that Sarah performed at the end-of-year
recital. She is at the left side of the picture.
Roger insisted that I take this picture of him
with his robot dog, Doggie.

Alan likes swings. This particular one is at Tierra
Rejada Park.
Sarah was a member of the honor guard holding the ivy chain at
graduation this year. Based on class rank, the top 10 girls and 10 boys from the Junior
year are chosen to be part of the ceremony for the graduating Seniors.
They form a corridor, along with the teachers, for the graduates to walk down.
Lisa made Dean's Honors again for Spring 2002!
