Snow Day on Mt. Pinos

We played hooky on Wednesday, February 26th to go play in the snow on Mt. Pinos, a designated snow recreation area. Glen took the afternoon off and I pulled Jenny out of school. Glen chose that day because of the weather conditions. Storms on Monday and Tuesday had dropped rain here and presumably snow at higher elevations. It was a great expedition. We had acquired a Coleman propane heater designed for use in tents so that we could warm up the inside of the van. Then we took out the middle seat, leaving a nice open space there. Being a weekday, there were very few people to share the snow with. At one point, ours was the only car in the parking lot at the top of the mountain (8300' elevation).

Heading west from Frazier Park (elevation ~4500'), patches of snow became visible.

As the elevation rose, so did the snow level.

There is a small building with this sign on it at the end of the parking lot.

Alan tried tubing with Daddy.

Roger was brave enough to do it on his own.

Jenny parted company with her saucer at the bottom of the run. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the most spectacular one on film.

Alan made snow angels and 'dangerous' mountain roads.

Alan liked being able to warm up and have snacks inside the car.

Jenny created this unique snowman on the side of a tree.

We went back and played some more on a Saturday with the McGreevys, Chagis, and other friends, but I have few extra pictures since the snow wasn't as pretty, the area was more crowded, and I concentrated on taking video. We had a lot of fun, Roger especially since he got to piggyback on the tubes with pretty much anyone else going down the slope.
