Pool Pad/Patio

After spending half a year looking at a blue tarp on the ground where the pool goes during the summer, we decided to pour a level concrete pad that would serve us as a patio during the 8 months of the year that the pool isn't up.

Putting together the new wheelbarrow, in preparation for dealing with concrete.

Cleared pad area, with black vinyl edging in place as the circular form. We used a laser level to make the top of the edging as close to level as we could. Last year the pool was 3" deeper at one side and that's not very good for the type of pool we have.

We used 6x6" wire mesh for reinforcement.

We decided to have the concrete delivered instead of trying to handmix it all, or tow multiple Ucart loads.

The pumper is towed separately.

The concrete is poured into the pumper which then pushes the concrete through the tube to the backyard.

Glen got the first shot at filling.

And then the pumper guy took over.

Keith came down to help and made himself extremely useful on one end of the long board to smooth off the concrete.

Meanwhile, the peanut gallery was watching. Paige was here, too.

It took both Glen and Keith to lever the float to the center of the 16' pad.

Glen worked for hours making the finish just right.

Jenny helped scrape the concrete off the vinyl form.

Glen and Alan worked the next day to chip the still-weak concrete off the vinyl and the bricks.

A week later the pad is hard enough to use.

So we promptly covered it up and started filling the pool.
