Refugio Beach

Since both Lisa and Sarah were off work and available to visit on Sunday, April 25th, we decided to make a fun day of it and go to the beach. I picked Refugio, which is about 15 miles north of UCSB, and one that we hadn't explored before. Unfortunately, Glen was on a business trip and had to miss this one, but the rest of us had fun. We went to Jack-in-the-Box for lunch first and then drove up the 101 to the beach. After we all cleaned up, we picked up two of Lisa's friends, Robyn and Nicole, and went to Taco Bell for dinner.

There were dead jellyfish all over, looking like pieces of glass at a distance. I've since discovered that they are really Velella Velella, By-the-Wind Sailors, and you can see more about them at http://jellieszone.com/velella.htm.

Lisa held up this sandcrab.

We hiked west to the rocks to look around.

Rinsing off most of the sand before changing clothes and getting in the car.
