We stopped at the Y at the base of Mt. Pinos at around 6000' elevation.
The road to the top hadn't been plowed yet and the snowgate
was closed. This is the sand-and-gravel parking area.
Alan and Roger threw a few snowballs once we got there.
We hiked a little way from the car. If you look carefully,
you can see cars in the background. There were other people around,
but not enough to make things crowded.
Roger tries the new, smaller kid-size tube.
Alan goes down the hill.
There weren't too many icicles. The weather hadn't
gone through a thaw-refreeze cycle yet.
Then we hiked over a small ridge to try another, longer slope.
Glen managed to avoid the tree, but he ran into the adjacent
snowman at the end of one run.
It snowed on us the whole time, but the flakes got bigger
as the afternoon progressed.
That's the sun trying to peek through.

The snow seemed fresh enough to allow them to try eating it.
I made them soda slushies after we got back to the car.
The snow was certainly deep enough.
The car had icicles and snow clinging to it.
Snow on the bumper after just a couple of hours.
