After climbing down the stairs, we had to round this rock
between waves to get to the part of the beach we wanted
to see. Jenny had checked low tide; it would be around 4pm,
just about the time we expected to leave, so we could
count on the tide going out for the time we were there.
Jenny had warned us that much of the sand was missing, but
it was still surprising to walk across expanses of
exposed rock.
Close-up of the patterns in the rock.
Jenny and Molly and I sat on the blanket while the boys played
in the sand.
They found a board and worked on some kind of fortification.
Danny found a warm tidepool of water to splash in.
A couple different boats went by.
Jenny found a large sand crab.
Alan spotted this weird creature.
This shell still had its inhabitant.
This guy was doing some variation on surfing.
Time to hike back to the van.
We cleaned up and changed the boys, before driving home.
The drive home took awhile due to rush hour traffic
in Santa Barbara and a rest stop at the Carpinteria McDonalds.
