Shelton, Dottie, Mother and I decided to explore the
Point in downtown Pittsburgh, where the Allegheny and the
Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio.
Shelton paid to park in the small lot there and we hiked
around a bit. We all took plenty of pictures.
We could see the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
And the Incline.
Unfortunately, they were doing some construction at the Point,
so we couldn't walk all the way out and we couldn't get a good
view of the rivers. But the walk was still worth doing.
Workers were at the base of the 'tree' at the Point getting it ready for
the Christmas season.
Crossing the Ohio River, just below the confluence at the Point.
Next on the agenda was lunch. Shelton and Dottie introduced me
to Cracker Barrel.
Mother got a thick sandwich, reminding me of club sandwiches
she used to order when we were kids, and how we wondered
whether she'd be able to take a bite. She always managed!
Friday morning, all of Shelton and Dot's family was present
at the hotel breakfast.
It seemed like a good time to give out wedding presents and
get caught up on these special occasions since we'd
missed the actual events. We
gave Laura and David a set of cutting boards.
Wesley and Mandy got a set of blankets.
All dressed up for the rehearsal dinner. Since Mother and I didn't have the same
responsibilities as the others, we'd relaxed and enjoyed
the hotel pool that afternoon while they ran errands
and did the actual rehearsal at the church.
Jon and Victoria with Grandmother.
Wendy, Steve, and Vanessa rolled into town a little too late
to make it to the rehearsal dinner. We found them enjoying the
pool when we got back to the hotel around 10:30.
Saturday - the big day. Now there were even more of our group
enjoying the hotel breakfast.
Esther Persighel got 'bubbled' by Vanessa.
Glen and the boys drove over in the
morning and met us at the hotel to get dressed up.
The church was a historical building from the 1800's in
Monroeville.
The inside was cozy (real estate code for small) which made the wedding feel more
intimate and real, rather than a stage production.
Vanessa grabbed a quick cat-nap while waiting for the ceremony to
start.
At the reception. Alan still has the tie on, but not for long.
Hubbells.
Shelton's expanded family.
The guys drove back home after the reception. We switched
cars because the Honda had developed a problem with the lights
on the way over
(switch overheated) and I would be driving home in daylight.
Sunday morning breakfast. The hotel lobby tables were all
claimed already, so the helpful breakfast person opened
up a conference room down the hall for our group.
Laura and Vanessa get crafty making paper beads.
We then packed up and checked out. Mother experimented with
pulling her suitcase to the elevator while also using the
walker.
Last gathering of the wedding - Sunday brunch. Jon and Victoria
modeled their Disney hats, a gift from Wendy and Steve. They
were heading out to Disneyworld for their honeymoon.
Mother switches cars, moving her stuff from mine to Shelton
and Dot's. I would head home and the others would hit the road
to Gaithersburg via a stopover at Penn State. Shelton had a meeting planned with Aramco students there.
