Outdoor Education

Roger went to Outdoor Education at the end of October. It was held as a week of day trips at the Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Eduation Center. The kids went to school each morning and were bused there and back. I went along as a chaperon one of the days.

The students were divided into small groups of around 10-12. Roger's group started this day in Peninsula by the river. Their guide is explaining about water quality.

After listening to the instructions, they went to the water's edge and collected some samples to test for turbidity, Ph, and something else.

After discussing their results (the water got a 'D'), they took a peek at an old canal lock.

This beehive was hanging over the lock.

Then back to the Center for lunch.

After lunch, they studied a building built to be enviromentally friendly. Then they worked together to decide on what elements they might incorporate in their own building design, which they designated 'The Green Coffee Shop'.

Finally, they made rough models of 'The Green Coffee Shop' which would be presented later in the week to the whole class.
