Pennsylvania Road Trip

We had a chance to rendezvous with Keith and Kurt at the Sweitzer Farm near Marietta, PA in mid-September when they would be visiting there. We decided to take advantage of being in eastern Pennsylvania and see if the Freys were also available for visiting. We lucked out -- they all were!

We liked this buckle-up campaign! Whoever does the signs for I-80 in PA has a sense of humor. The deer crossing signs all had red noses, too!

Aunt Beth, Uncle John, Steven, and Megan, in front of their house in Allentown.

I love the big open kitchen space.

Megan made brownies for dessert.

We hiked around their neighborhood a bit, including this nearby park that has a frisbee golf course.

The park also has a water-filled quarry.

Alan enjoyed trying out Steven's electronics kit.

They have a pingpong table in the basement.

Alan also took the challange to assemble this whole Lego set before we had to leave.

Sunday morning we left the Freys and drove to the Sweitzer Farm, home to Keith's mother Ruth and sister Karen.

This basement hides a pinball machine.

You pass under these grapes to enter the house. Ruth has rows of colorful jars of preserves in the basement.

Ruth gave us a tour, including the barn.

Her neighbor farms much of the acreage with soybeans.

Heading home, we drove north along the Susquehana River, glimpsing the 3 Mile Island nuclear power plant.
