Local Creek

These are all pictures of the creek that runs just past our back property line. Hiking downstream just a few backyards puts you in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Since the creek is in a ravine and roughly 50 feet below the elevation of the houses, no one seems to mind occasional foot traffic, particularly since the yards in question are mostly larger than an acre and the houses are well away from the creek. Likewise, we don't object to the occasional hiker, either. A troop of cubscouts came through the lower part of our yard one time.

Glen explored downstream in mid-March.

Notice the slanted rocks, perhaps left that way by a glacier?

He discovered a roughly 20' drop here.

That's a beachball down there.

It's a lovely waterfall.

Despite the visible home, this is actually on NPS property.

He explored further a few days later.

Jenny hiked down with Glen while home for Spring Break.

There were still chunks of snow under the waterfall.

These straight vertical lines in the rock by the waterfall puzzle us. Did someone blast away some of the rock? And if so, why?

Finally, I hiked down at the end of March.

A little salamander.
