Local Fauna

These are very local fauna -- these pictures were all taken in our yard.

A wild turkey ambled through the lower backyard.

Large woodpecker on the white pines in front.

A pair of the woodpeckers showed again a different day on the tree near the garage.

A mole that's digging up our yard. We watched as the woodchips bubbled around while he moved just under the surface.

Glen saw this deer just as he was getting ready to use the chainsaw to cut landscape timbers for the stair project.

When I came out to take a picture of the deer, I stumbled on this fawn, just feet away from my feet! This was on May 18th.

It wasn't far from the house, but well hidden from view until you approached the edge of the ravine. Glen decided not to run the chainsaw after all. We checked later and the fawn was gone. We've now learned that does frequently park their fawns in hiding like this for hours at a time, while they forage. They then return, nurse the baby, and move it to another location.

Roger spotted the doe and fawn again on June 11th. They were strolling past the white pines heading for the sidewalk.

The fawn made another appearance in our neighbor's yard on June 15th. It's growing.
