
We hiked along the top of the cliffs to Copperhead Overlook.

We caravanned to the trailhead for the next hike.
End of the road: time to park and hike.
According to the Garmin topos, this was a picnic area.
We spotted the convenient refrigerator...
...and tire swings.
But after skirting the bottom of one of the dams and
climbing to the top, we
were able to see the lake.
We approached the lake on one path before deciding to
hike through the wooded areas instead.
We could see the beach area in the distance across the water.
This is West Virginia, known for coal. There were suspiciously black
pebbles on the ground.
This puffball was interesting, too.
A snake startled us slithering across the trail.
Soon thereafter, we decided to turn around here.

These vivid orange toadstools really stand out.
We retraced our steps below the dam and back to the cars.

A third hike was below the main Summersville Dam. Signs
warned us to leave in case of danger.
A boat launch ramp was just below the dam. It's probably used
for rafting trips.
