Spring Break in MD, DC, PA, and OH

We spent Spring Break with the McGreevys, John, Molly, and Daniel. On Saturday, April 3rd, we drove 2 cars to Gaithersburg. Glen picked up the McGreevys from Dulles late that evening and we all began our big slumber party at Mother's villa. I'm borrowing some of John's pictures to tell the story of our trip.

We celebrated Easter on April 4th. Those pictures are below, but I grouped a lot of other activities on the following pages.

Monday, April 5th: DC

Tuesday, April 6th: Gaithersburg...

... and Antietam

Wednesday, April 7th: DC

Thursday, April 8th: Gettysburg

Friday-Sunday: Ohio

Mother and I made a spaghetti dinner Saturday.

She'd saved this special bunny cake to share with us.

They had a little time to kill, so they found the Gaithersburg Train Museum. - JM

And a train went by! - JM

Meanwhile, Mother and I went to Grace United Methodist Church. The high point for me was the communal singing of the Hallelujah Chorus for the benediction.

Mother had contributed for some of these tulips.

Outside Grace Church.

Back at the villa, Mother put out a selection of substantial finger foods and sandwiches.

Wendy, Steve, and Vanessa came over and the party started.

The first activity was to make Easter baskets. We had empty gallon jugs, hot glue guns, construction paper, glitter, etc.

Then Mother got out a plastic tablecloth and we dyed eggs.

I even had to try one.

John patiently holds Alan's pokeball egg just half-way in the red dye.

Meanwhile, we filled a bunch of plastic eggs for the hunt.

We did an egg hunt outside.

To top off the day, Mother had also gotten a cake to celebrate Roger's birthday.

Thanks, Grandmommy!

After all that, dishes.

Yes, we still had a bit of energy to play Apples-to-Apples. Dan collected the cards in his hat.

We fit everyone in the villa: McGreevys in the guest room, Roger on the sofa, and the rest of us on air mattresses.

Alan liked having his special spot in the den.

The boys love the perfect climbing tree in the front yard.

Mother starts planning the spring planting. Maybe the tulips will end up by the skunks.

Time to hit the road. It eases the goodbyes when I know Cynthia is there to take good care of Mother.

We stopped at Costco in Frederick for lunch and gas. The redbuds against the wall are a nice touch. - JM

Costco suits this crowd for lunch. Pizza! Next stop: Gettysburg. - JM

The PA Turnpike - a historical site. We drove miles of it to get home after touring Gettysburg. Actually, I was very relieved to be on the turnpike after a crazy drive across Route 30 in the dark and rain on a twisty mountain road.

We did some fun things in Ohio, too!

April 12th: The boys are back in school. Spring Break is over. The Mcgreevys have to head home to CA.
