Gettysburg

Thursday, we loaded up both cars for the drive back to Ohio. We planned on spending a chunk of the day touring Gettysburg.

We began at the visitor center and saw the video presentation and the Cyclorama. This circular painted depiction of the battle dates back to the 1800's. It's been restored and housed here in a large circular room. Alan is looking a smaller version here.

We wandered around the museum, too.

Then back to the cars for a strategy session.

The redbud trees were just amazing.

John studied the map and picked out several likely stops on the driving tour. Additional stops were added on the spur of the moment when something caught our attention. Seminary Ridge is visible from here.

Glen and John climbed the tower for a better view.

General Robert E. Lee.

So far, we'd seen the Confederate ground. Now we moved on to Union turf.

Little Round Top.

The view from Little Round Top. Imagine soldiers crossing that terrain under Union fire.

Roger climbed the tower.

Looking back on Little Round Top from below.

A storm was blowing in.

I didn't quite get blown away trying to take pictures! - JM

We found a handy McDonald's in Gettysburg for dinner.
