Day in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park

We did a sampler of sites within the park, starting with the Canal Visitor Center in Indepence.

They maintain this lock as a demonstration tool.

The Ohio and Erie Canal.

The old inn has been restored and turned into a visitor center.

We walked over to the pedestrian bridge for a peek at the Cuyahoga River.

Water was high and muddy from recent rain.

We spotted a blue heron.

Obligatory flower picture: crown vetch by the parking lot.

Next stop: Brandywine Falls.

Looking up from the walkway, we wonder how long those trees can continue to thrive.

And here are the falls as Brandywine Creek changes elevation.

Another visitor center, this one in Boston Mills. Alan studies how the canal boats were built and repaired.

Roger tries one of the building demos.

How planks are cut from a typical log.

Lock 32 is being restored. We also tried to see Deep Lock Quarry, the source of some of the stone used to build the locks, but by this time we were tired. So we finished up with a stop at the farmer's market, and then Marc's.
