Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen is a gem of a park. It's at the southern end of Seneca Lake. The stream drops 400' in 2 miles, creating 19 waterfalls in a beautiful gorge.

We parked at the lower end and prepared to hike up and back.

There were enough of us to look like an official tour group.

Jenny and David, ready to hit the trail with me.

We're already well above the level of the parking lot.

Keep climbing.

The trail goes behind/under Cavern Cascade.

Steven, Beth, and Megan behind the sparkles.

Spiral Tunnel takes you up above the Cavern Cascade.

Another view of Cavern Cascade.

The faster hikers waved down to us.

The adventuresome in the group would cross this bridge later.

Steph and Jen pause for a moment.

So many cameras!

Jenny spotted something.

Wildlife!

Kelsey, Tom, and Sam.

Central Cascade.

Look - fish! Okay, so they're a little small, between 1-2" long.

More of the 19 falls we were told to expect.

Near the top of the trail, we could see this train trestle.

Parts of the broken train trestle.

Coming back down, the sunlight hit the waterfalls a bit differently.

Many of our group decided to return to the parking lot via the Indian Trail instead of retracing their steps.

This trail went along the top of the cliffs instead of next to the stream.

Lisa was totally taken aback when the trail edged this cemetery.

They had the opportunity to cross the really high bridge we'd seen earlier from below.

Aunt Laurie acting stern!

I can barely stand to look at these pictures, let alone take them! These are Lisa's, taken from the bridge looking down.

Down at the base, Lisa treated the boys to pushpops while waiting for the rest of us. Alan's holding hers while she takes the picture.

And we'll finish with this cute wildlife specimen who hopped past the gift shop.
