Our first rest stop was for King's eggrolls.
We ate a progressive lunch: eggrolls here, a bite later at a Taco Bell, ice cream at McDonald's in Goleta, to spread out our breaks.

We got caught in Santa Barbara rush hour traffic.
The 101 follows the Camino Real, the Royal Road between the Missions,
and is marked with mission bells along the way.
Mother loved the oleanders in the median strip.
Once past Santa Barbara traffic, we had to negotiate the never-ending roadwork to widen the freeway.
The car only had room for 5, so, despite driving right by her home, we couldn't pick up
Jenny. She took the train instead. Due to traffic issues, she made much better time and
beat us to Simi by quite a bit, even though the train was running behind schedule.
We got there in time for dinner, though!
Return trip north-bound on July 29th.
