Chris borrowed his dad's Durango so we could all fit in one
vehicle. Off we went to San Francisco, 50+ miles away.
The famous fog was drifting over the hills as we approached
the city.
Our main destination was the Academy of Sciences.

It's enclosed in a bubble to maintain the right environment and keep the butterflies contained.
You go through airlocks to enter and exit.

The butterflies were an irresistable photography target.



From the canopy of the rainforest, we could look down at the earthquake
exhibit. It includes a room mounted on a shake table, so you can
experience a simulated earthquake. We also enjoyed the plate techtonics
show in the planetarium.
Chris treated us to lunch.

The roof is alive.
Sarah and Chris model their 'Sunstaches', new from the
gift shop. Sarah plans to wear hers to school on
sunglasses day.

Back inside, we checked out the African Hall.

They had real African penguins swimming around.
Leaving the Academy of Sciences, Chris drove us through the Golden Gate Park,
with care to go by the buffalo herd that lives there.
The Pacific Ocean.
The houses are packed together, right next to the wooded park.
Then he drove us to a pricier area, complete with sign
prohibiting tour buses and vans.

Our first glimpse og the Golden Gate Bridge.
We parked at the marina to walk around and get a better view.
Looking the other direction, we could see Alcatraz Island.
Sitting on a spit of land is this Wave Organ.
During high tide, the movement of the water in the pipes
resonates and creates music.
The bridge is beginning to peep out from the fog.
Last view of the Golden Gate as we head for the freeway and home.
