Happy Birthday, Glen!

It's a fishing boat -- from Lisa.

Alan created this in ceramics class.

Blueberry thieves in the front yard! They didn't even let them ripen.

Glen's ingenious method of lifting the potted lemon tree.

Roger turned around from the computer, and saw a snake staring back!

Glen put him in a bucket and took him to the bottom of the hill.

He might be back -- or maybe his cousin shed a skin in the asparagus planter by the front door.

The peppers were thriving -- until the deer cleaned them out.

Seckel pears! Yes, they were quite tasty.

We decided to replace a couple of the support posts for the deck after seeing what shape they were in.

Glen jacked up the major beam and cut out the rotten post. He then poured a concrete footer and inserted a new post.

Chris and Sarah came for a whirlwind 3-day weekend to attend Jen and Joe's wedding. They presented Alan with another mug for his collection.

There was a little time for some New Super Mario Bros.

Lisa got an early birthday present.

She opened it while talking with Glen.

Final Fantasy XIII! and a PS3 on which to play it. (Thank you, Lisa, for the carefully-staged reenactments.)

Chris and Sarah are engaged!!! (Thank you, Sarah, for sending pictures of the beautiful ring.)

Janette Fowles (Glen's cousin) was in town, and so was Jerry, so we had a family get-together. She lives in Colorado.

Janette was staying with her brother Dale.

Uncle Roger extended a business trip to Cleveland at the end of August, and spent the weekend visiting. Laurie and Rudy provided Friday's dinner.

We went to the Cottage on Saturday and hiked our local creek Sunday morning.

The water was low enough to make it reasonable to hike the creekbed.

Fossilized ripples in the rock layers.

Unfortunately, I slipped on a rock just before we got as far as the waterfall. I didn't break anything, but the ankle was definitely in bad shape. We managed to hobble up the hill, exitted the park via the Ramer's backyard, and Glen got the car to drive me back up the hill to home.

Here's what the foot looked like nearly a week later.

We still had time for a campfire and picnic lunch before Uncle Roger had to leave for the airport.

Not even a week later, the Freys came through town on their way back from taking Steven to the University of Michigan for his freshman year there.

We celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.

Mom had special-ordered the cake, and used the same figurines that were on hers and Dad's silver wedding anniversary cake.

Alan took this great moon shot.
