Cooper Grandparents

Grandpa broke his hip on June 9th in a freak fall. He was turning to get something from the fridge. He ended up with hip replacement surgery and several weeks at a rehab facility as a result, plus bedsores on his heels that refused to heal properly for months.

We planned a steak dinner to celebrate his return home.

Missing from this picture is Grandma. In a tough turn of events, we had to take her to the hospital just 3 hours after Grandpa walked in the door. She'd been having a lot of swelling and pain in her shoulder and finally got it looked at by a doctor, a couple days before Grandpa was due to come home. He drained the swelling, gave her a shot of cortisone, and sent the fluid out for analysis. She felt much better, but the lab results showed major infection, so off to the hospital, with the doctor planning to do surgery to clean out her shoulder on July 4th. (yes, the holiday!) The infection had entered her bloodstream so high-powered antibiotics were also prescribed.

The antibiotic was administered through a PICC line for the next 8 weeks.
