Hikes

July 14th hike from near Szalay's Market south to Beaver Marsh along the towpath.

We paused to chat with a man watching the river. He showed us where to look to see the beaver rambling around on the opposite bank.

And here's a video of the beaver.

While we watched the beaver, a doe and fawn crossed the river just downstream.

Click here to watch the fawn gambol around.

We eventually did make it down to Beaver Marsh itself.

No beavers showed themselves at the marsh this evening, but this heron was certainly striking.

July 21st we took an evening walk on the towpath from the Breckville Station.

This frog on the path rounded out the variety of wildlife we spotted.

The CVNP had an openhouse on August 6th for a couple of party/wedding venues, so we decided to check them out in case Jenny & David wanted to do something local in Ohio. Also, it was a nice opportunity to see places not generally open to the public. The first spot was the Happy Days Lodge.

It was one of many CCC projects in Virginia Kendall Park, which would later be included in the CVNP.

The plaque by the statue.

Right next to the Lodge is the Mater Dolorosa cemetery, of haunted fame.

The larger parking lot is on the other side of the road, so you go under it via a culvert.

The other venue holding open house was the Hines Hill Center.

On August 17th, the boys joined us for a tramp along a portion of the Buckeye Trail between Blue Hen Falls off Boston Mills Road and the park Headquarters at Snowville.

The steps that inspired Glen to do a set in our yard.

August 23rd: hike with Julie (neighbor) along a piece of the Buckeye Trail in the Brecksville Reservation.

The trail crosses Riverview at Chippewa Creek.

auspicious number

Chippewa Creek

Dawn Redwood - there are quite a few in the Brecksville Reservation.

Beautiful foliage - Dawn Redwoods are both deciduous and coniferous, a very unusual combination.

We brought water shoes along to wade in Chippewa Creek.

Huge bank of clay - perhaps even suitable for ceramics?
