Anne's Trip to California

Nayla needed someone to take care of her during the workdays while Gladys was in Peru. So Anne flew out on September 10th for two weeks.

An intense storm cleared up just in time for the flight to take off.

Coming in to Chicago.

Beautifully illuminated Chicago skyline.

I arrived late Saturday evening. Sunday morning, we went out for brunch.

Nayla can stand without holding on, but doesn't do it for very long yet.

We spent Sunday, Sept 11th getting acquainted so Nayla wouldn't be so concerned when left just with me Monday morning.

I stayed at Oscar and Gladys's home since they have a lot more space than Sarah and Chris, and Nayla is used to coming there for daycare.

Monday morning, Nayla was a little worried, but we managed. video clip

Tuesday, Sept 13. Nayla is clearly Sarah's daughter, with a Chargers-logo pacifier and a Belle doll.

We went for a walk most days, and occasionally stopped to check out the grass.

Ladies night with Rosa.

Wednesday, Sept 14: Nayla loves books.

Some nights I cooked dinner and we ate together before Sarah and Chris took Nayla home.

Thursday, Sept 15: Lisa, Jenny, and David all drove up to hang out with Nayla and me.

Hanging out at the park.

In a grand coincidence, Shelly and Lauren (David's mom and sister) were visiting in the San Jose area, so they came over and we went to dinner together.

But first Nayla had to open her gift from Shelly.

It took awhile - Nayla needed to practice this new skill.

Dinner at Black Bear Diner.

Friday, Sept 16th: Lisa brought her work with her and managed to get some done.

Nayla needed a nap but was having trouble settling down, so Lisa deliberately set her an example, and then ended up falling asleep herself.

Dinner at a local pizza place.

Saturday, Sept 17th: Nayla is ready to go.

Another birthday gift - Little People Nativity set from Grandma and Grandpa.

After a leisurely start to the day, we drove to Muir Woods and did some tree-hugging at my request. Those pictures are here.

Sunday, Sept 18: Lunch out before Lisa needs to hit road for her drive home to Riverside. Jenny and David had to leave that afternoon, too.

Monday, Sept 19: Nayla really does enjoy her books - she turns them right-side-up and looks at the different pages.

Also a video of Nayla managing the step down from the kitchen to the living room. And a couple more: video 2 and video 3

Wednesday, Sept 21: Chris picked Nayla up this evening. Sarah had a union meeting she had to attend.

Chris took me over to their apartment and I got to see Nayla's gated area there. They enclosed a large part of the living area for her.

Thursday, Sept 22nd: The street was being worked on much of the time I was there.

It looked like maybe they were installing new underground cable. Fortunately, Nayla could still take our daily strolls to the park, Lucky's, or Target, so the construction wasn't a big problem.

And on Friday, Sept 23rd Anne flew back to CLE, but the visiting wasn't over since Sarah, Chris, and Nayla flew back, too, to attend Steph's wedding.
