Anne's Trip to Florida

Manatees

Friday, after getting my hair styled at the Wexford House by Kelsey, we drove down the coast to the Manatee Viewing Area near Apollo Beach. It's sponsored by the TECO Big Bend Power Station. The manatees like the warm-water discharge from the plant during colder months of the year.

There were too many to count, but I'd guess there were several hundred manatees basking in the warm water.

We walked out to a different viewing spot to observe another group.

The preserve also has an observation tower.

It's a coal-fired plant, with a large supply piled up.

Plenty of birds around, too.
