Gaithersburg

Anne and Alan visited with Mother/Grandmother at the end of July. We were intrigued by a caravan of historic firetrucks traveling the road with us on I-70.

Historic Firetrucks

We arrived late on Mother's birthday and saved our celebrations for the next day. These pictures don't include the multiple trips to Midas to get the Subaru in better shape for the drive home, or a routine check at Kaiser Wednesday morning for Mother, or a trip to the Plaza Artist store Friday morning. And Mother's regular pool exercise classes, or her volunteering at the Kindley gift cart on Wednesday. Busy week!

Monday we went over to the Carballos' for a joint celebration of Mother's and Wendy's birthdays.

They spot deer regularly in the adjacent woods.

The Montgomery County Fair was coming up in just a couple weeks, so they are organizing their entries. And knew that we'd want to see them!

Very unusual addition of color variety to this technique.

Pluto and Bastet, since joined by Helios.

Vanessa made dinner.

Chipotle-style beef, beans, rice, etc.

One of the birthday girls.

And now it's Wendy's turn with the sash and tiara

Steve picked out an ice-cream cake for dessert.

first jigsaw puzzle of the week completed.

Tuesday evening we met cousins Matt Hubbell and Hilbert Hubble at the Silver Diner for dinner. They both live locally.

second puzzle of the week.

Dinner Wednesday night was a special Villan gathering at Asbury. Since we were visiting, Mother included us. We met some very nice Villa residents.

As it turns out, 2 of our table-mates were artists and were excited that Alan is also. They recommended that he check out a local art supply store, which we did later in the week.

Thursday Wendy came over for the day. Marilou was also here for her regular caregiving shift. Strictly speaking, Mother had plenty of help available this week, but it was helpful (and fun) to get to know Marilou better.

Wendy stayed for dinner, too - the one dinner we actually fixed at the villa this week!

Unfortunately, we diagnosed a problem with pantry moths - probably inadvertently imported in groceries sometime in the last month. So we did an impromptu clean out of affected food items, and, as Wendy is demonstrating here, swatted down a bunch of the moths.

Result of draconian measures.

Cousin Nicholas Minor came over Friday for lunch. He's a cousin on Mother's side of the family - a great-grandson of my Greataunt Hannah.

Wendy, Steve, and Vanessa came over for dinner Friday night. We wanted to keep things simple, so we ordered Domino's pizza.

third puzzle of the week. And then Alan and I headed for home Saturday after lunch.
