We parked near where Snowville ends at Riverview. This is a lovely
black walnut tree in the parking lot.
We walked across Riverview towards the Cuyahoga River, crossing the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
The track hasn't been in use all summer, due to COVID-19 shutdowns, but they started
limited rides on October 1st with safely protocols in place for social distancing.
Swathes of area appeared to be cleared near the trail.
Our best guess is recent river flooding did this.
The Cuyahoga River.
Since the brush was cleared away, we moseyed off-trail south paralleling the river.
Looking south, we could see the old railroad bridge that had served the Jaite paper mill.
The mill was in operation until the 1950's, when it was sold and repurposed for printing.
It was finally shuttered in 1984. Arson in 1992 rendered the buildings too hazardous to
maintain.
The bridge is not safe, but quite scenic.
We decided to hike back along the old rail tracks.
Clearly, these rails have not been used for quite a while.
Looking back toward the river.
Crossing the power line right-of-way.
Back to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway.
This line is used for tourism through the national park.
