Exploring the canal in Canal Fulton.
Canal boat rides are sometimes available, but not today.
This home owner decorated for Halloween, especially for the hikers on the towpath, and
boat riders.
Walking past the park area, we came to the canal boat barn.
It's empty at the moment, but canal boats can be floated in here, the water drained,
and presto - dry dock.
Further along the towpath.
Normal hiking mode - picture-taking.
After our stroll on the towpath, we went over to Menard's in Massilon.
Yes, we're close to Amish territory.
Then on to one of our favorite farm stands, Sunny Slope
We tried out the Apple Slinger but didn't hit the target.
Lisa and Glen gave the Pumpkin Slinger a try, too.
We did succeed in purchasing apples.
And then on the way home we were surprised by the intensity of this storm.
Game night with Roger.
Getting the crystal hedgehog started - a crystal-growing kit Lisa had found on sale at Menard's.
Alan creates a sandwich.
Apple crisp being assembled.
We checked out Heritage Farm in Peninsula.
Lisa inveigled us into doing the Scavenger Hunt. Thank you! It was an
entertaining hike that circled through the Christmas tree farm area.
A quick stop at the CVNP store in Peninsula, but they were closed. Nice butterfly, though!
More Dominion with Roger.
We're on a quest to find a real buckeye tree. Robyn's dad, Dave, had asked what
they were like so we wanted to provide an answer.
This part of the CVNP towpath is heading north from Boston Mill.
We didn't spot any buckeyes, but did see plenty of black walnut trees.
We also found some buckeye candies in the trail shop for Lisa to take back to CA.
They're little chocolate cups with a peanut butterish filling made to resemble
buckeye nuts.
Ladder Toss in the driveway with Roger.
Getting ready to venture out on the water.
Glen took Lisa out to Mogadore Reservoir.
Alan cooked his special noodle dinner for us.
Trying out Mysterium, a gift from Shelton & Dottie. Roger enjoyed playing the Ghost.
Another hike - this one is the trail by the Brecksville Nature Center.
We were intrigued by the fungi.
After asking at the Nature Center, we ventured down to the Brecksville Station
on our further quest to find a buckeye tree. The ranger thought there might be
some between the railroad tracks and the river.
This gave us a chance to view the now-free-flowing Cuyahoga River where the
Brecksville Dam used to be. They recently removed it to improve the quality of
the river. It had been a low dam to keep a water supply at the right height to
feed the canal.
No buckeyes, but the milkweek was photogenic.
We realized much later that the reason we weren't finding the buckeyes was
because they'd already shed their distinctive leaves for the season.
new product suggestion for Aunt Wendy? We spotted this tire cover in the
parking lot.
Wildlife! A handful of turkeys paraded through our yard.
Campfire S'mores
A family game of Mario Golf on Roger's Switch.
